“Potatoes for dinner again, Daisy?”

That was the line I repeated to begin my sixth grade play. Even that was more than 40 years ago, I still remember the opening scene. I didn’t mind memorizing my part (I played Daisy’s father), but I wasn’t thrilled about having to deliver the first words. What if I didn’t project loudly enough? What if I flubbed my line and derailed the whole production?

If I recall, the play was kind of a class assignment, so I had little choice but to try my best. Although shy, I somehow pulled it off!

Thousands of years ago, God performed a drama of His own. The Jewish people had been suffering involuntary servitude in Egypt for so long they knew nothing else. Their wish for freedom must have seemed a dim dream. But the Lord came through for them.

“And when the Israelites saw the mighty hand of the Lord displayed against the Egyptians, the people feared the Lord and put their trust in Him and in Moses His servant.” – Exodus 14:31

God helped them, but so did Moses. Who? The man the Lord instructed to tell Pharaoh to release the Israelites; the person who organized the new nation and led them into their future.

Former slaves were challenged to obey God and depend on His promises. But they heard these only by listening to Moses.

How would you feel if you were in his position? Could you summon the courage to confront Pharaoh and galvanize the dispirited? Could you speak your lines with conviction? God’s people learned to trust Him; they also trusted Moses.

Centuries later, the Jews faced an impending army of invaders. Hopelessly outnumbered, all they could do was cry out to God. King Jehoshaphat led the prayer meeting as the nation sought divine mercy and help.

In response, a prophet named Jahaziel announced that God would protect His own. Far from being destroyed, they would witness the Lord’s delivering power.

“Early in the morning they left for the Desert of Tekoa. As they set out, Jehoshaphat stood and said, ‘Listen to me, Judah and people of Jerusalem! Have faith in the Lord your God and you will be upheld; have faith in His prophets and you will be successful.’” – 2 Chronicles 20:20

Do you find it easy to trust God in times of difficulty? Can you believe the statements of those who claim to reveal His will? And have you ever suspected that the Lord wanted you to proclaim His truths? Would you? Have you?

Dare to speak for God! He can use you and will honor your faith.

Doubtful? Don’t think it can happen? Christ does.

“‘“If you can”?’ said Jesus. ‘Everything is possible for one who believes.’” – Mark 9:23

Trust God.

“Jesus looked at them and said, ‘With man this is impossible, but not with God; all things are possible with God.’” – Mark 10:27

You can depend on God’s power and goodness; nothing is too hard for Him.

The Father not only wants to act; He wants you to act in His name. He not only desires to speak to people; He desires that you, too, express His heart and mind.

“If anyone speaks, they should do so as one who speaks the very words of God. If anyone serves, they should do so with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen.” – 1 Peter 4:11

The drama’s about to begin; it’s your turn to go on stage. Don’t hold back. Give God your all and Jesus promises He will work through you. You’re not alone; the Director’s right there with you!
