If the Lord Wills

I was planning on resuming my blog posts next week, but a phrase burst into my mind: If the Lord wills. It’s from the book of James:

“Come now, you who say, ‘Today or tomorrow we will go to such and such a city, and spend a year there and engage in business and make a profit.’ 14Yet you do not know what your life will be like tomorrow. You are just a vapor that appears for a little while and then vanishes away. 15Instead, you ought to say, ‘If the Lord wills, we will live and also do this or that.’” – James 4:13-15 (NASB)

I don’t believe God opposes me writing discipleship articles; He only wants me to make sure I recognize His authority as I do it. What Jesus wants is best, and it’s up to me to live like that’s true.

Prioritizing the will of God boils down to a matter of the heart. Do I want His plan or mine? What we say about our future flows out of our inner disposition.

“The good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth what is good; and the evil man out of the evil treasure brings forth what is evil; for his mouth speaks from that which fills his heart.” – Luke 6:45 (NASB)

Want to know your actual feelings about submitting to the will of God? Check out your words. What do you say about your future? What do your plans reveal about your desires and where does Jesus fit in?

See you next week.

If it be the Lord’s will!
